Should I create a website or a blog?
June 23rd, 2009 by adminI need to put up a website - or a blog - but I don't know what would be best.
- I'd be publishing 1 to 3 entries a day, in two languages (on two separate "pages") - but not in a "blog manner" (Infact, I'd be directing towards a "real" blog too)
- I'd need to send a newsletter once a week and have a good "search" function
- I'd want it to be very well referenced by Google, etc
- I'd be putting in banners, advertising, affiliate programs, etc.
Do I need to set up a website for this or can I get a good result with a blog? At the moment my knowledge concerning html, css, cms, etc is not "professional", but I was aiming at setting up a website. Is a blog a better / possible way to go?
Thank you for your help !
P.S. Also - if I was to go the easy way - does anyone know if websites/blogs done with iWeb have any chance of being referenced?
You can have both together. Some web hosts offer blog tools (wordpress).
As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. A domain name is a name you want to call your website. To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.
If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.
As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.
They are a Multi-awarded Web Hosting which offer a Full-featured service only $6.95. You can see their Plan Details accompanied with reliable reviews regarding their service at:

Personally, I think that blogs are becoming overtaken by website builders, where you can do so much more than a blog.
Blogs are great for websites in terms of driving traffic and for their members, but are too limited.
I would therefore create a website using a website builder. After hunting around and using lots of different ones, I've now settled with EzWeb123.com (http://www.ezweb123.com), which is free (with ads), or very cheap to upgrade.
Be aware that there are many free builders now out there, but the top ones are so painfully slow to use that I've given up and its a bit annoying when you've created a fairly extensive website to then start over again.
Hope this helps.
Pete
