You do not have to pay to mystery shop. They pay you but not much. I did it for few years a long time ago. Most of my jobs came from http://www.shopnchek.com/ (gas stations/fast food). The best paying jobs came from http://www.productpickup.com/recruiting@productpickup.com 1-800-443-6127 not sure if that is still their contact info or not but for them I went to stores, bought Coke products, made reports for the date codes and then shipped the soda in for quality control testing. They also do Pepsi but a shopper can not do both Pepsi and coke. The most strange job I did was to buy m&Ms and count the colors. lol
I’ve looked into a few, but have yet to find one that is "real". A real job doesn’t charge you an initial fee. Good luck! I do sampling events for Mass Connections. It’s internet based and they have auditors who go store to store making sure event personnel do their job properly, maybe you could get into something like that, they are based in CA, but have staff all over the country.
Do not pay to register with any mystery shopper site. Legitimate companies do not charge you to apply.
Do a search for "mystery shopping company" and you will come up with lots of legitimate mystery shopping companies. Apply to many, because you will not get steady work from one company. Most shoppers work for several different companies.
